Yes. I got back on. It has been a wonderful month. I like this job so much that I sometimes think it is going to come crashing down around. I love the variety, I love the lessons, I love the school, I love the kids, I just love it all! One thing about moving into a new school where you know no one-who can you trust? I just will have to bide my time and figure that one out. I am somewhat of a loner, so it does not bother me that I have no one to talk to. I haven't made it to the teacher's lounge yet for lunch. I suppose I should, because that is where I can make connections. I have been trying to get useful information out to the teachers that they may be able to use in the classroom.
One thing about a new job is "That's not how we did it before" syndrome. As you know Common school funds should only be used for items for the library. This year 1/4 of my budget was taken for computers-now allowable. They are in the library. However, I haven't quite received an answer if that will happen every year or -maybe- I actually have a say on that! Some teachers were allowed to remove materials from the library and have them housed in their rooms. A NO_NO. But tradition is hard to break. Before I hand anything to a teacher I say "This was bought with common school funds, that means it must be housed in the library" Most teachers are agreeable-some are vocally (behind my back) aghast. Will if they don't want to house it in the library-they won't be getting anything ordered by me! Hard-nose that I am. Also there are magazines that have been ordered for certain teachers and then the magazine disappears-That will stop.
My biggest priority that I see is a HS population that does not read, I haven't seen a book checked out yet. Library is a social hour-Which I have cracked down on, so it is actually quite sometimes. I want to start a book club and I think I got some kids hooked at freshman orientation. I also am having the HS library open two nights a week for homework help-Hope that brings some students in.
I am so happy to be back on line-I will keep in touch.
